Creating in Community, Healing the Heart.

Me in classOn Sunday, September 14th, I had the pleasure of hosting a Visual Journaling Class in Seattle. It was fun and enlightening for me, the teacher, and for the participants. Class began at 10:00 am and for the next 6 hours we fell into the magical zone of creativity, learning and reflection.

Busy playing

During our first warm-up exercise and our beginning writing exploration the students in the class quickly allowed their intuition to surface and illuminated what needed tending to. From there we immersed ourselves in paint, paper, and page preparation. In no time at all students were creating luxurious layers, surprising even themselves with what was coming forth. It was amazing to witness the participants energy, awareness and intuitive healing rising along with their expanding artistic techniques.

Here’s what some students had to say:

Me in class

“I will use this (Visual Journaling) to learn more about myself.” -Jody Myers, M.A. Therapist and Sexy Girl
(This student piece has so many subtle layers of imagery, color and meaning. I wish you could see it in person.)

P9180133.JPG “It will be a tool for understanding and accepting the trends in my life.” Deb G.-Seattle (The poetry and metaphor in her work blew me away. Lovely.)
Who are the next creative and expressive people to join me in this transformative process? It’s fun and it’s good for you. Sign up. The next class on October 18th is filling quickly.

Good enough. Here we go.

I just started editing and writing on this website, well aware that the aesthetics aren’t what I love. But it’s good enough. And it gets the message out about the fun new classes I’m teaching this fall (check out the Visual Journaling sections of this site) which also carry a message about good enough. Anyone can express themselves creatively and it’s about noticing when it’s good enough, rather than waiting until you can do it perfectly.

The fun thing about putting classes together is that I have been able to use the process (Visual Journaling) to move through this process (developing fun classes about something I love to do.) There’s a funny way in which the work we have to share is often the work we have to do. Ya know, how we teach what we need to learn. It’s been a blast to use the process that I’m teaching as self-care during this development process.

Check out the classes and come have fun!
